Privacy Policy

Upwellers is a creative writing workshop business run by Kurt Pitzer. This page explains what information this website collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with. If anything here is unclear, email kurt.pitzer@gmail.com and Kurt will answer directly.

Information we collect

Workshop registration and payment. When you register for a workshop, the "Register now" buttons take you to a Stripe checkout page to complete your purchase. Stripe collects and processes your name, email address, and payment details directly — this website never receives or stores your card or bank account information. See Stripe's own privacy policy for how they handle that information.

Emails you send us. Several links on this site (for example, "Start the conversation," "Try it for free," and the contact section) open your own email program with a message addressed to kurt.pitzer@gmail.com. Whatever you write in that email — your name, email address, and message — goes directly to Kurt's inbox and is used only to respond to you and coordinate your registration or request.

Newsletter. If you sign up for the Upwellers newsletter, your email address is stored with our email provider, Mailchimp, and used to send occasional updates about upcoming workshop sessions and writing tips. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every newsletter email. See Mailchimp's privacy policy for how they handle that information.

Website usage data. This website itself does not use cookies, analytics, or third-party tracking scripts. Stripe's checkout pages and Mailchimp's signup forms and emails may use their own cookies or tracking as part of providing those services, governed by their own privacy policies linked above.

How we use your information

  • To register you for a workshop and process your payment, through Stripe.
  • To respond to questions, requests, or registrations you send by email.
  • To send newsletter emails, if you've signed up to receive them.

We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone, and we don't use it for anything beyond running Upwellers' workshops and communicating with you about them.

This site relies on a small number of outside services to operate, each with its own privacy policy governing the information it handles on our behalf:

Data retention

We keep registration records and emails for as long as needed to run our workshops, respond to you, and meet basic recordkeeping needs — and no longer than that. Payment records are retained by Stripe according to their own policies; Upwellers doesn't separately store your payment details.

Your choices and rights

You can ask at any time what information we have connected to you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing kurt.pitzer@gmail.com. Newsletter emails include an unsubscribe link you can use whenever you like. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California) — reach out to the same email and Kurt will do his best to help.

Children's privacy

This website is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Upwellers' website and tools change. The date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
